15-year-old hit by semi wheel on I-80

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - A 15-year-old was hit by a wheel that flew off a semi traveling on I-80 Tuesday morning, according to Indiana State Police.

The 15-year-old is being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries.

State troopers were called to the scene of the incident, at mile-marker 0.4, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the investigation, the 15-year-old was hit as he was helping fix a flat tire on the passenger vehicle he had been traveling in.

The semi’s wheel came off due to a mechanical issue.

Four people who were outside the passenger vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries.
