15-year-old driver hits pedestrian Thursday morning, fog thought to be factor
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports on Thursday, around 7:27 a.m., deputies responded near 58086 Benham Ave. for a report of a pedestrian hit by vehicle.
The report states a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 15-year-old Elkhart boy, was travelling north on Benham Avenue near 58086 Benham Ave. The driver's identity is withheld since he's a minor.
Due to weather conditions being foggy, the report states the driver's vision was obstructed, causing him to crash into 26-year-old Rebeca Marrufo Portillo, of Elkhart, walking north.
Portillo was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for neck, waist, back, and right knee injuries.
The Jeep sustained moderate damage on the front passenger side.
The 15-year-old was cited for never receiving a license.
