MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Olympic Wrestling Gold Medalist Sarah Hildebrandt was welcomed home today, as her alma mater Penn High School held a press conference and celebratory parade after her big win in Paris.
The community showed out in droves to support the local legend and her contributions over the years that helped pave the way for women's wrestling to get started at Penn.
"To know that that opportunity now is open to more and more women and girls is so special. And to just have been even a tiny piece of that, you know, obviously so many more people, you know, help build that platform and make women's wrestling what it is today, but to be a small piece of that is just, is everything," stated Hildebrandt.
The parade started at the high school and stretched all the way over to Zolman's on Mckinley Avenue, featuring the Penn Band leading the march and Hildebrandt as the caboose.
Hildebrandt won gold in the 50 kilogram, or 110-pound division back in August at the Paris Games.
