Woman shot at Randolph Park in South Bend Monday afternoon

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- St. Joseph County Dispatch confirms one person was shot in Randolph Park in South Bend Monday afternoon.

A call came in at 12:16 p.m. reporting the incident, which happened in the 1700 block of Randolph Street.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located a 17-year-old female victim suffering apparent gunshot injuries.

After being taken to the hospital, she remained in critical condition until she was later pronounced deceased.

One nearby resident says that the area's youth needs to put down their guns and solve their problems by speaking to one another.

“We had another one I think it was last year, last fall. You know it’s getting rough out here. These kids, they don’t know anything about these guns. They think that it's more power to them. It isn't. You know you’re throwing your life away, throwing somebody else’s life away along with your family's. You know you guys got to start thinking about putting these guns down and talking about it. Instead of, you know, shooting at each other. You know it isn't worth it," said South Bend resident William Collins.
