Woman injured, man killed in shooting in Michigan City

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A man was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting that happened Saturday evening, according to Michigan City Police.

Police received a 9-1-1 call at 8:39 p.m. about a woman with multiple gunshot wounds at Crown Food Mart on E. Michigan Boulevard.

The 31-year-old woman was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A few minutes later, the 9-1-1 dispatch center received a call about a shooting in the 100 block of Edward Street.

When police arrived, they located 27-year-old Demetrius Howell deceased. He had been shot, police said.

Both crime scenes were secured during the investigation.

Detectives learned both victims were together at the 100 block of Edward Street when the shooting happened.

The shooting remains under investigation.
