UPDATE: 18-year-old victim identified in overnight Elkhart shooting
ELKHART, Ind. -- UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department has identified the victim from Sunday night's shooting on S. 6th Street as 18-year-old Fernanda Leon of Osceola.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
Police say this remains an active and ongoing investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Elkhart Police Department reports the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a call for sounds of gunshots near 6th Street and Hively Avenue around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday.
Shortly after that, police say an unconscious woman suffering from a gunshot wound was brought to Elkhart General Hospital.
The report states that despite life-saving efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
EPD officers were then dispatched to a residence in the 2700 block of 6th Street in connection with the investigation.
Authorities say the Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
Witnesses told ABC57 that police were calling for people to come out of the house on 6th Street, but it's not confirmed it's where the shooting happened.
Witnesses added that a man was searched and detained and a woman was also present but it's unclear the relation to the shooting.
Sixth Street remained closed off Monday morning.
