Woman dies after crash caused by wheel coming off of vehicle, sheriff says

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich.—A 20-year-old Sturgis woman died after a crash in Michigan on June 26, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff.

According to the sheriff’s office’s investigation, the front driver’s side wheel of a Jeep Wrangler driven by a Sturgis man came off of the vehicle on Silver Street near Hampton Road on June 26 around 11:40 a.m.

The wheel went into another lane, causing a box truck driven by a Plainwell man to lose control and cross into oncoming traffic, police said.

Police said the truck then collided with a car driven by 20-year-old Julie Renee Zimmerman.

Zimmerman was pronounced dead at the scene, police reports said.

The other two drivers involved in the incident were not seriously injured, reports said.
