There certainly aren't many complaints when it's sunny with highs in the 50s in February across Michiana.
But the warm weather could a negative effect: a longer and more severe allergy spring allergy season.
"Spring is the busiest allergy season and the one that people suffer the most from," explained Dr. James Harris, a physician of Allergy and Immunology with the South Bend Clinic. "This is because of the peak, the high amount of pollen in the air, but also about how long it is."
Dr. Harris is particularly concerned about tree pollen season.
"Tree season is already the longest season, and my guess is if it starts early, it will be March, April, and May even into June. So, it will end up being a three-month season instead of two months."
With some Michiana trees already showing signs of budding, and more warm weather expected into March, this could be an allergy season we don't soon forget.
