GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Whirlpool Foundation is funding Camp Infinity, partnering with the Michigan Council of Women in Technology, whose intent is to introduce girls, grades 5-8, to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related careers.
The girls will get the chance to meet speakers who work in STEM fields and hear about their experiences and journey through their career.
They will also receive hands-on experience with programming, web design, robotics and 3D game design using EPIC Games Unreal Engine.
The Whirlpool Senior Director of Information Systems, Pamela Wize-Martinez, spoke with Gordy Young about Camp Infinity's endeavors.
"The program is designed to support and encourage girls [...] and get them introduced to programming, internet technology, designing and things of that nature."
Each week-long workshop costs $100 and offers a daily breakfast.
The final camp will occur July 31-August 4 at Davenport University's W.A. Lettinga Campus in Grand Rapids, Mich. for grade 5-12 students.
"It's never too early to get girls...children involved in learning and technology-in learning about skills in science, technology, engineering and math," said Wize-Martinez.
