Here are just a few of the events and activities going on in the Michiana area this weekend.
Potawatomi Zoo set to host their annual 'Zoo Boo' trick-or-treating event
The Potawatomi Zoo is set to host their annual Zoo Boo trick-or-treating event Oct. 18-20, with regular admission being closed during event days.
Zoo hours will be from 2-9 p.m. on Oct. 18-19 and 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Oct. 20.
Regular admission to Zoo Boo is $12 per person, with children under the age of 2 getting free entry. Zoo members will receive a 50 percent discount for admission to Zoo Boo.
Tickets are available to be purchased in advance online or at the gate upon arrival.
All paid admission will receive a ticket to trick or treat around the Treat Trail. The Zoo encourages those attending to bring their own bag to put candy in, in an effort to be more environmentally friendly.
After 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, the Zoo Boo will open The Haunted Train, a train ride with lights and scary actors. The Zoo states that this might not be suitable for all ages.
Other Zoo Boo attractions will include the carousel and feeding the giraffes.
All attraction tickets will cost $3, or visitors can use Zoo Attraction Passes.
Costumes are encouraged for both children and adults, but no full-face masks are allowed for visitors 15 and older.
Zoo Boo will have many local food vendors such as Knights of Columbus, Keim's Elephant Ears, Randy's Kettle Korn, Professor Butterbeer, Sugar Rush, Dippin Dots, Tom's Coffee, and The Lodge will be open with State Fair donuts, hot dogs, hot drinks, sandwiches, and more.
Linden Avenue Farmer's Market Harvest Finale is Oct. 19
As fall rolls in over Michiana, the seasonal stands many locals enjoy are coming to an end. That is the case for the Linden Avenue Farmer's Market who will host its last market of the season this coming Saturday, Oct. 19.
"The City of South Bend’s Engagement and Economic Empowerment team will host the Linden Avenue Farmer’s Market Harvest Finale, the final market of the season, this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Charles Black Center," the city said in a statement. "The market will feature local food vendors, farmers, a live DJ, and other family-friendly interactive entertainment."
South Bend Fire Department invites community to grand re-opening of Fire Station No.8
The South Bend Fire Department invites community members to celebrate the grand re-opening of Fire Station No. 8 on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Fire officials say this moment has been long anticipated.
There will be a dedication ceremony followed by a fire department open house with tours of the new firehouse, activities for the family, and crews spraying some water.
There will also be discussions about fire prevention.
The station is located at 2402 S. Twyckenham.
