Welfare check results in two deputies being assaulted

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a residence in the 3000 block of 37 1/2 Street in Bloomingdale Township on Monday around 10:30 p.m. for a welfare check.
Authorities say a family member called with concerns for the resident's well-being.
Deputies made entry into the residence with help from the family member.
After announcing their presence multiple times, deputies say a man ran out from one of the bedrooms nearby and struck them both with a metal object before falling to the ground.
A deputy deployed their taser and after a short fight with the man, he was handcuffed.
The 41-year-old suspect was taken to the Van Buren County Jail on charges of Assault with Intent to Maim, two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Resisting/Obstructing Police Causing Injury, and one count of Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Paramedic.
The investigation is ongoing.
Two deputies received medical treatment for injuries from the incident.
