Warsaw man to spend decade and a half in prison for firearm offense

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A 47-year-old Warsaw man will spend over a decade in prison after pleading guilty to Possession of a Firearm as an Armed Career Criminal, according to the United States Attorney’s Office Northern District of Indiana

Jason Waikel was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison followed by 4 years of supervised release.

Case documents reveal Waikel became a person of interest after the Warsaw Polce Department investigated a shots fired incident where the shots came from a moving car in July 2025.

A search warrant was subsequently executed on Waikel's car, which was found to have a bullet hole in the driver's side trunk lid.

Another search warrant was executed at a storage unit Waikel owned. Authorities recovered four firearms from the unit.

Waikel later admitted he fired shots during the shooting incident.
