NAPPANEE, Ind. -- U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski was killed in a crash north of Nappanee on Wednesday, with her campaign manager and communications director also tragically losing their lives.
Zachery Potts was a 27-year old Indiana University graduate who had worked with Congresswoman Walorski as her campaign manager and coordinator for more than three years.
He was also the chairman of the St. Joseph County Republican Party, the 2nd District Young Republicans Chair, Vice Chair of the St. Joseph County Republican Party, and Victory Team Captain of the Indiana Republican Party.
Emma Thomson was 28 years old and served as Walorski's communications director for more than a year.
She had also served as the campaign manager for Dr. John Joyce for Congress, a digital communications assistant for the Democracy Fund, and a press assistant for Marco Rubio for President, in addition to interning at the U.S. Senate.
Walorski, Potts, and Thomson were all travelling southbound on SR 19 near SR 119 when they collided head on with a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Edith Schmucker of Nappanee, who was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
