MISHAWAKA, Ind.---Sunday, friends and family of Gavin Chapman held a candlelight vigil at Battell Park. Chapman was killed on May 2nd when he was struck by a train.
Katelyn Barnes, one of Chapman’s classmates and friends, organized the event.
“I just feel like it would help people, to come together, say memories and be at peace,” said Barnes.
Sunday’s vigil emphasized the importance of seeking help when battling depression and mental illness.
If you or someone you know are having suicidal thoughts, resources like the Suicide Prevention Center of St. Joseph County are available. The phone number for the Suicide Prevention Center of St. Joseph County is 574-247-6047.
