SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Marine Corps League and the Army Navy Club are honoring veterans by placing a total of 840 American flags at the graves of fallen soldiers at the Sumption Prairie and Notre Dame cemeteries in observance of Memorial Day.
The Marine Corps League and the Army-Navy Club of South Bend are teaming up for what they call “Veterans Honoring Veterans” to honor all of their sacrifices for our country.
About 25 to 30 people will be out at Sumption Prairie Cemetery and Notre Dame to place flags on veteran graves ranging from the Civil War to World War II – and even some that date back to the Revolutionary War.
This will be the first time the marine corps league and the Army-Navy Club will have worked together for this cause.
“The brothers at Notre Dame, they haven’t had flags on them for quite some time. I didn’t even know about them until this year. I didn’t even know that Notre Dame was a part of our detachment responsibility until this year, but it is gonna get done," said Johnnie Moody, commandant for Marine Corps League.
They will meet up at 10 a.m. at Sumption Prairie, have lunch, then go to the Notre Dame’s cemetery after. To all the vets and current military, we thank you for your service and bravery.
