Verizon network issues impacting customers in Michiana
UPDATE: As of 5:30 p.m., Verizon employees are still working to fully return cell phone service to all customers.
"Verizon engineers are making progress on our network issue and service has started to be restored," a Verizon spokesperson told ABC57. "We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers experienced today. We continue to work around the clock to fully resolve this issue."
ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Cell phone network Verizon has confirmed that an outage Monday morning is impacting users across the country, including many here in Michiana.
“We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers,” a Verizon spokesperson told CNN. “Our engineers are engaged, and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue.”
The outage appeared to start around 11 a.m., with roughly 100,000 reports from customers on DownDetector, a site that tracks complaints about service outages.
While some customers have no service at all, some are reporting that their phones are stuck in "SOS" or "Emergency" mode
According to its website, the company has over 114 million subscribers.
