ELKHART, Ind. -- The Concord Mall redevelopment into the Concord Business Park has entered a new phase of construction.
R. Yoder Construction shared with ABC57 on Tuesday that their role of clearing the interior of the building space is mostly finished.
The new property owners, Industrial Commercial Properties, closed on the mall in October of 2023, and started working to clear the property less than one week after funding was approved by the city.
The interior of the space has been “white-boxed”, meaning it’s been completely gutted, had ceilings removed and been painted a new color. These changes were made to show potential leasers what space they’ll be working in.
Concord Business Park will be separated into five spaces for light industrial, flex and tech businesses. One of those spaces, the former JC Penny building, is now detached from the others.
The first business is set to move in and begin operations in August, with the goal of having the project wrapped by October.
