Unidentified pair caught impersonating police on Ring Doorbell camera
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A Mishawaka couple was left stunned Sunday morning when their Ring Doorbell camera caught an unidentified man and woman approach their home, impersonate police and then slash their truck tire before leaving.
The unidentified woman approached the door first, rang the doorbell and referenced the man, standing behind her as "officer".
After an automated message played when no one answered, the woman falsely stated "This is the police."
After a few moments without answering, the woman is heard in the footage saying "I'm gonna slash that truck's tires."
She's then seen walking away from the home and uses an unidentified object to puncture the rear passenger tire of the homeowner's truck. The pair then pulled out of the driveway and left the scene.
The owners of the home, a husband and wife with a young daughter, confused by the seemingly random incident.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor's say impersonating an officer is a class 6 felony, and can lead to up to more than two years in prison.
The homeowners hope that the strangers are caught, and that they find out why they were targeted.
