MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports the Ramada by Wyndham at 5820 Franklin St. and Comfort Inn and Suites at 100 W. Kieffer Road have been closed indefinitely until the owner remedies city and fire code violations.

Police say the business licenses for both motels have expired, and the city will not renew them until the violations have been corrected by licensed contractors.

The report states since several of the unaddressed violations present life, health, and safety hazards, no guests or staff will be allowed in either building until the work has been completed.

Authorities say Michigan City is working with displaced guests to find alternative accommodations.
