Two men in stolen vehicle arrested following pursuit, crash

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Two men from Illinois who were in a stolen vehicle were arrested following a pursuit and 3-hour search Friday morning, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

At 10:39 a.m., a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in Buchanan for a violation. The driver did not pull over and led the deputy on a pursuit through Buchanan, the township of Niles and the city of Niles, reports said.

Once in Niles, the vehicle crashed into a dirt embankment and the two occupants of the vehicle ran from the scene, reports said.

One of the subjects was apprehended shortly after fleeing the vehicle.

The second was located after a 3-hour search.

During the investigation, officers learned the vehicle in the pursuit was reported stolen from Champaign, Illinois.

Investigators also learned the two suspects, ages 18 and 19, were possibly involved in a homicide in Chicago, reports said.

Both were booked into the Berrien County Jail.
