Two-day Navarre Cabin roof replacement workshop

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The History Museum is hosting a two-day workshop to install an oak shingle roof on their 200-year-old Navarre Cabin building beginning on Oct. 4-5.

The workshop will offer participants an experience in removing and installing a wood shingle roof.

Attendees will not require any previous skills and are requested to wear clothes that they are prepared to get dirty in, consisting of closed shoes, long pants and gloves.

Participants should feel comfortable and confident with heights, climbing ladders, and be prepared to work upon scaffolding and the roof.

The workshop is not recommended to all in which are not confident in the hand-on activities listed above.

The History Museum lists this information about the cabin, "The Navarre Cabin, the oldest structure in St. Joseph County, was recently moved to The History Museum’s campus from Leeper Park East. The relocation brings to fruition a decade-long vision of the museum to interpret pioneer history in a more historically accurate context."
