Tuesday morning South Bend fire extinguished quickly, cat still missing

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 3000 block of Curtiss Drive around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

"Firefighters were met with smoke coming from the second story window at the front of the structure," South Bend fire officials said. "The fire was extinguished within the first 10 minutes and residents of the structure exited safely with no reports of any injuries."

There was a report of two small dogs that were found in the structure and taken to safety. There is also one cat who could not be found following the fire.

There were no reports of injuries to firefighters while fighting the fire, and the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
