Three juveniles detained in connection with armed robberies

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police took three 14-year-old suspects into custody on September 1 following two attempted armed robberies on Western Avenue.

The first attempted armed robbery happened in the 3500 block of Western at 8:35 p.m. The second attempted robbery was reported in the 3400 block of Western at 8:50 p.m.

In both attempted robberies, the suspects were armed with a gun but did not get away with anything from the stores, police said.

Just before midnight, officers were called to the 400 block of S. Michigan for a report of teenagers in the parking lot and one had a gun, reports said.

Five minutes later, police received a similar call about teenagers with a gun in the 500 block of S. Fellows, reports said.

Officers in the area detained the three juveniles on Rush.

The gun was recovered, but police said it was a BB gun.

The three 14-year-old suspects were taken to the Juvenile Justice Center in connection with the armed robberies.
