The History Museum iof South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Wednesday, December 3, at 1:30 P.M. the Curator of Copshaholm Amber Gabel explores the history of Christmas caroling at Insights in History at The History Museum.

In her presentation, Amber will chronicle this favorite Yuletide activity, from its beginnings to modern day, and describe how bringing cheer to neighborhoods through song has become a seasonal tradition.

A first-floor tour of the Oliver Mansion, decorated for the season, will be offered. On the first floor, Christmas trees are located in several rooms, including the Main Hall, Library, Dining Room, Morning Room, Music Room, and Den.

The Oliver Mansion, once home to the J.D. Oliver family, is a historic house owned and operated by The History Museum. The family moved into their three-story home on January 1, 1897. The Victorian mansion would be home to the family for the next 75 years. All the furnishings are original, showing the house as it appeared when the family lived there.

Now in its 20th year, Insights in History is a monthly series that features a lecture in conjunction with a tour of an exhibit or area at The History Museum.

Admission to Insights in History is $3 for general and $1 for members. Reservations are required by December 1 and can be made online or by calling 574-235-9664, ext. 6256.

Refreshments will be offered.
