Ten-year-old struck and killed Tuesday in St. Joseph County

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. -- A Vicksburg man is facing felony charges after he struck multiple children with his vehicle on Dec. 2 in Sherman Township.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Banker and Balk Road for the report of a motor vehicle that had struck multiple school-aged children.

"Upon arrival deputies discovered that a 29-year-old man from Vicksburg was traveling westbound on Banker Street when he failed to see the children, striking one of them," authorities said. "Lifesaving measures were attempted, but a 10-year-old child was pronounced dead on scene."

The suspect was arrested and lodged at the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office on felony charges related to the accident, but those charges are unknown as of the morning of Dec. 3. 

The man is expected to be arraigned sometime Tuesday, and more information will be released following his arraignment.
