MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Police, fire, and EMS responded to a single vehicle crash near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Elmer Street in Michigan City on Wednesday afternoon after an SUV struck a utility line and rolled on to its side.

The Michigan City Fire Department says the crash happened around 4 p.m. when a distracted driver went up on to the curb near a utility pole.

Authorities say the vehicle straddled the guidewire of the pole that anchors into the ground up until the vehicle flipped on its side.

All three passengers were able to exit the vehicle through the sunroof. They were evaluated by La Porte County EMS and sent to local hospitals for follow-up treatment.
