The initial reports stated the suspect, Jason Hack, Boots, and a third friend were hunting on the evening of Feb. 28, near S.R. 110 and C.R. 500, when Hack took a shot at a raccoon climbing up a tree.
The bullet was alleged to have ricocheted off the tree before striking Boots in the abdomen.
According to Fulton County court documents, investigators found the bullet did not ricochet.
Investigators say Boots was shot straight on. Investigators suggest Hack fired his shot at a moving target without considering where the bullet could travel.
Investigators added there's no motive for Hack to shoot Boots, but he did so unintentionally.
Hack is facing charges of Reckless Homicide, a level 5 Felony, and Criminal Recklessness Committed with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 6 Felony.
Hack's initial hearing was Tuesday morning.
Hack's pre-trial conference is Sept. 30.
