Suspect faces multiple counts of Child Molesting following investigation
La Porte County Jail: Billy Cannon MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports an investigation began on Nov. 3 after a complaint was received regarding a man having sexual encounters with a child.
Detectives began working with the Indiana Department of Child Services and learned 66-year-old Michigan City resident, Billy Cannon, reportedly had multiple sexual encounters with a child known to him.
Police say a search warrant was executed at Cannon’s home on Nov. 7 where they took him into custody and found evidence they say corroborates the allegations made by the victim.
The investigation was forwarded to the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office for a probable cause review.
Probable cause was found on Nov. 10 to charge Cannon.
Cannon is charged with two counts of Child Molesting-The Defendant is at Least 21 Years of Age, Level 1 Felonies, one count of Rape, a Level 3 Felony, three counts of Child Molesting-Fondling or Touching a Child Under 14 Years of Age, Level 4 Felonies, one count of Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor, and one count of Inappropriate Communication with a Child, a Class B Misdemeanor.
Cannon was issued a $100,000 cash bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
