Rain, snow, and wind are on their way later tonight
LAGRANGE, Ind -- Severe storms blew through LaGrange county Wednesday night after 9:00 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning and tornado warning were issued for the county. The strongest part of the storm hit the town of LaGrange just before 9:30 p.m. ABC57 was on scene by 11:00 p.m. and was able to confirm many trees and limbs down, especially on the west side of town and near the courthouse.
NIPSCO is reporting more than 3,000 customers are without power in the county.
Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service completed a storm survey and confirmed the following:
The National Weather Service visited LaGrange, IN this morning and determined that straight line wind gusts of 70 to 75 mph were responsible for numerous downed trees, branches, and power lines from last night's storms.
Stright line wind is the most likely cause of the damage, but storm survey will be required to determine in any damage was tornadic. Watch the attached video as Meteorologist Dave Caulfield walks you through the damage and Chief Meteorologist Tom Coomes analyzes the radar.
