BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - One person was shot by a Michigan State Trooper after a traffic stop was attempted Wednesday.
Both the suspect and the officer involved are expected to survive.
It started around 1:30 p. m. Wednesday afternoon when police tried to pull over a car for a traffic stop.
Two officers, one with Michigan State Police, and one from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, approached the vehicle.
They then learned that the driver was wanted on a federal warrant for absconding.
They tried to get him out of the vehicle and into custody, but the suspect put the vehicle in reverse trying to get away and hit the Benton Harbor Officer.
That officer's leg was injured.
The Michigan State Trooper then fired his gun, hitting the suspect twice.
The suspect's injuries are not life-threatening, and he's already been transported to jail after going to the hospital.
Just to reiterate the only person that was shot Wednesday was the suspect.
Currently, there is no threat to the public.
