St. Joseph County Council approves New Carlisle solar farm

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The St. Joseph County Council approved The Honeysuckle Solar Farm Project on Tuesday, bringing a new solar farm to the New Carlisle area.

Back in March, attendees at a town hall meeting expressed concerns about outsourcing employees and using up a large amount of viable farm land.

According to its website, the Honeysuckle project will provide 150-200 construction jobs over a 12- to 14-month period, with most jobs filled by local workers.

The $164 million project will be built on 1,100 acres of leased farmland, giving 150 megawatts of solar energy to St. Joseph County as early as 2024.

The project must meet a number of expectations, including traffic mitigation and how the site would be decommissioned at the end of its life.
