St. Joe County Fire Territory unveils newest "modern" station

NOW: St. Joe County Fire Territory unveils newest “modern“ station

WARREN TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Fire Territory revealed the newest fire station in the county Tuesday by giving media a behind-the-scenes look at the state-of-the-art building.

The former Warren Township Fire Department building, located next door to the new facility, was built in the early 90s, and the township now has plans to turn it into a community center.

Station 18 expands the department's capacity, with first responders able to live, work out and relax on-site.

Now, 12 firefighters can be on-duty at all times across three stations. Previously, there were only five firefighters on-hand across two locations in Warren Township.

The station also prioritizes firefighters; boasting a number of safety features built-in to keep first responders healthy.

Right now, the SJCFT is responding to any call they get, whether it's for support from other stations across the county or homes/structures within their technical boundaries. Chief Downey confirms they even responded to a call in New Carlisle on Monday.

The township also hopes to soon provide ambulance service for the area, which will be based out of the new station.
