South Haven Area Emergency Services SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. -- A team of lifeguards in South Haven is being recognized for what city officials are calling a "major lifesaving incident."
This happened the morning of Tuesday, June 9. City officials say a swimmer at South Beach exited the water and was speaking with on-duty lifeguards when they suddenly became unresponsive. The lifeguard team did CPR and deployed a defibrillator to revive the swimmer.
The swimmer was taken to the hospital for further treatment. Their current condition is unknown.
This comes shortly after the city's lifeguard program was reinstated early this year, bringing lifeguards back to South Haven's beaches for the first time in a quarter century.
