SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- As the Fighting Irish football team prepares to open their home schedule against Northern Illinois this Saturday, local transportation companies are adjusting their schedules to accommodate fans. 

The South Bend Public Transportation Corporation and the South Shore Line have announced service adjustments and detours that will be in place for home football Saturdays.

TRANSPO SCHEDULE CHANGES:

  • #5 North Michigan – Buses will bypass Saint Mary’s College starting with the 2:20 p.m. departure from South Street Station. This detour will continue for the remainder of the service day. The 5:20 p.m. departure will be canceled. For the 7:30 p.m. night games, the 3:20 p.m., 4:20 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. trips will be canceled.
  • #7 Notre Dame / UP Mall – Buses will bypass the Notre Dame campus starting with the 10:20 a.m. departure from South Street Station. This detour will continue for the remainder of the service day.
    • The following DETOURS will also be in place:
    • Outbound – From LaSalle Ave, buses will turn left on Eddy St to SR 23, resuming the regular route to University Park Mall.
    • Inbound – From University Park Mall, buses will turn left on SR 23 to Eddy St, turn right on Colfax Ave resuming the regular route.
  • #13 Corby / Town & Country – Buses are currently detoured and will continue to run the following detours on game days.
    • Outbound – From Michigan buses will turn right on LaSalle, left on Eddy, right on Corby resuming the regular route.
    • Inbound – From Corby Blvd, buses will turn left on Eddy, right on LaSalle, left on Notre Dame, right on Jefferson resuming the regular route.

Transpo officials say there may be delays throughout the system due to game day traffic and that passengers are encouraged to plan accordingly. Officials suggest taking an earlier bus to reach their destination on time.

While Transpo says these schedule adjustments will be in place for all home games, the South Shore Line is releasing schedule changes on a week-by-week basis. 

SOUTH SHORE LINE CHANGES:

For Saturday's Notre Dame vs. Northern Illinois game at 3:30 p.m., South Shore Line Eastbound Tr 503 will arrive at the South Bend Airport at 11:36 a.m. local time.

South Shore passengers can then catch a shuttle bus from the airport to the Notre Dame Stadium.

Passengers will be dropped off at the IU School of Medicine building on campus at 1234 N. Notre Dame Ave. The return shuttle bus will depart the IU Medicine building at 8:30 p.m. to meet Tr 510, which departs the airport at 10:47 p.m.

For the return trip, the South Shore will operate its regular westbound weekend train service.
