South Bend releases updated 2024 cooling center list

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend has released an updated list of cooling centers available to the public during extreme heat.

City officials note community centers in South Bend are always open to the public, no matter what the season.

Charles Black Community Center at 3419 W. Washington St.

• Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.- 9 p.m.
• Friday: 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
• Closed on Saturdays and Sundays
• Closed on Juneteenth (June 19)
• Closed on Independence Day (July 4)
• Closed on Labor Day (August 2)

Howard Park Event Center at 604 E. Jefferson Blvd.

• Monday - Friday 8am-8pm Saturday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
• Sunday 12 p.m.- 6 p.m.
• Juneteenth Hours: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
• Independence Day hours: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
• Labor Day hours TBD

O’Brien Fitness Center at 321 E. Walter St.

• Monday- Thursday: 5 a.m. - 9 p.m.
• Friday: 5 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 6 a.m. - 3 p.m.
• Sunday: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
• Juneteenth Hours: 5 a.m. - 9 p.m.
• Closed on Independence Day (July 4)
• Labor Day hours TBD

Pinhook Community Center at 2801 Riverside Dr.

• times vary and hours are typically by appointment

Local libraries may also be used including the St. Joe County Public Library.
