SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Police Department is ready for Michiana's "Bike to Work Week", with the unveiling a new fleet of electric police bikes Thursday.
Next Monday marks the start of "Bike to Work Week", where Michiana residents are encouraged to go green and pedal to work instead of driving.
Now, SBPD officers will be joining those commuters, patrolling the streets with the nine new e-bikes.
South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruzskowski said, "Call responses are still a lot quicker; you're going to be able to go just as quickly to respond on the bike, that you can in a squad car."
They plan to start using the bikes on patrols right away.
