Showers stay persistent on the final day of the Nappanee Apple Festival

NAPPANEE, Ind. -- The 50th annual Nappanee Apple Festival wrapped up its final day with showers lingering throughout the day.

Despite the wet weekend, festivalgoers continued to move through downtown, with many gathering in covered shopping areas and under the main entertainment tent, where a live band continued to play through the rain.

"I apologize for those that came and got wet, but it is what it is. But all in all, it's a good festival. We try to stay with the same things that have been proven winners, like events that we have on Saturday-crusted saw, apple peeling, pie eating contests-those have been staples for years," said Donna Persing, the director of the Nappanee Apple Festival.

With different Saturday events cancelled, Sunday still featured the Donut Dash 5k and the cornhole tournament.

"I mean, you're going to get rain. You can't just all of a sudden change the weekend because you see the forecast 10 days out and it's going to rain, you just have to deal with it," said Persing.

Persing said food vendors saw slower business Sunday but that the weekend overall went well for them.

She also pointed to positive response to Saturday night's drone show, " People that have commented had good comments on the drone show that was last night that was provided for us by the Elkhart County CBB."
