South Bend opens overnight warming shelters due to extreme temperatures
SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- Starting Sunday night, the city will open overnight supplemental warming centers in preparation for Monday and Tuesday, due to extreme winds and temperatures.
The supplemental warming sites are as follows:
Broadway Christian Parish (1412 Carroll St.)
8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 to 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20
Howard Park Event Center (219 S St. Louis Blvd.)
8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22
The city’s regular warming center locations and hours will remain available for individuals in need. These locations and times include:
Charles Black Community Center (3419 W Washington St.)
Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays: CLOSED
MLK Day (1/20): CLOSED
Howard Park Event Center (219 S St. Louis Blvd.)
Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m.-10 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m.-10 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Monday-Thursday: 5 a.m.-9 p.m.

St. Joseph Public Library (304 S. Main St.)

The seating and restrooms are open to the public. Limited hours.

First UMC (333 N. Main St.) will also offer special warming center services on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (1/20) from 1–6 p.m. Food, healthcare resources, and grooming services will be provided. Individuals can enter via Madison St. and proceed to the soup kitchen area.
