South Bend mayoral proclamation honors farmer's markets
On Thursday, South Bend's Office of Sustainability presented the South Bend Farmers Market and Urban Garden Farmer’s Market with a proclamation from the mayor in recognition of National Farmers Market Week.
The proclamation recognizes the efforts of the markets and Michiana farmers to provide organic, locally grown food to the community.
Therese Dorau, the Director of the South Bend Office of Sustainability, says the city relies on the farmer's markets for agricultural and economic needs.
"The sustainability involves health. It involves economic development. It involves building local community. It involves taking care of our natural resources. Local farmers and local entrepreneurs and the community that supports the farmer’s market is such a great demonstration of all of those important sustainability aspects," said Dorau.
The South Bend Farmer's Market is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and is located at 1105 Northside Boulevard.
