South Bend man found guilty of Felony Murder, four counts of Robbery

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office announced 30-year-old Dashawn Powell Jr., of South Bend, was found guilty on Thursday of Felony Murder, Aiding, Inducing or Causing Murder, and four counts of Robbery for a robbery and shooting that resulted in the April 27, 2021, death of 26-year-old Olivia Carillo, and injury to 30-year-old South Bend man.
The sentencing range for Murder is 45 to 65 years.
The sentencing range for Aiding, Inducing, or Causing Murder is 45 to 65 years.
The sentencing range for Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury is 10 to 30 years.
The sentencing range for Robbery Resulting in Bodily Injury is 3 to 16 years.
The sentencing range for Armed Robbery is 3 to 16 years, while the sentencing range for Robbery is 1 to 6 years.
Powell's sentencing is set for Aug. 29 at 11 a.m.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Powell had been making plans for a drug deal with a man who was injured alongside Carrillo.
On the night of April 27, 2021, Powell allegedly committed armed robbery at the Illinois Street home. During the robbery, a struggle broke out over Powell’s firearm as it was being discharged.
Powell left the home without his firearm. As he left, gunshots from outside the home were fired inside it, police reported
Through lab analysis, Powell was identified as a contributor for DNA located on items of evidence collected from the scene.
Powell was also identified by the male victim as the robber.
