UPDATE: Firefighters find propane heaters inside home following deadly fire
UPDATE TWO: The South Bend Fire Department says investigators were on scene for several hours attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
During the investigation, fire officials say they found several propane heaters inside the home.
Fire officials said it's unclear if one of the heaters caused the fire.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE: At 8:44 a.m., SBFD released additional details on the residential fire, noting that previously mentioned victim was a woman found in the house that crews removed to begin lifesaving measures. However, she was later pronounced dead on the scene.
SBFD also notes that the fire damaged a neighboring residence, and that crews were able to contain the fire in roughly 40 minutes.
ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department (SBFD) responded to a residential fire just after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The department has confirmed at least one death related to the fire.
SBFD responded after a call came in of a house fire around 5:30 a.m. at the 600 block of South Brookfield Street.
SBFD has confirmed one person has died, alongside several cats.
As of 8:01 a.m., SBFD is still at the scene of the fire.
