SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend is welcoming new housing as an effort to increase availability in the city.
It's a brand-new chapter for Sherman Avenue as the city will be celebrating its first newly built duplex as part of a transformative housing initiative.
The public is invited to Wednesday's ceremony which takes place at 11 a.m. on Sherman Avenue. Walk-through tours of the building will be given.
This project is just the beginning, with several more units expected to be completed in the coming months.
CDFI Friendly's Sam Centellas says the goal is to help create inclusion in neighborhoods so that residents can get involved with economic development.
"As we know the City of South Bend, it's exciting, we're growing. We need more housing. We've got more residents coming, we need people that need safe and affordable places to live. This transformation, as you can see, not just in this completed project, but in the ones that are being built around us, there's more development coming and it's going to fill these neighborhoods up and make these great places to live," Centellas said.
