South Bend Firefighters Memorial to be reassembled Thursday at Seitz Park

ABC 57

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Firefighters Memorial honoring the eight South Bend firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty is scheduled to be fully reassembled at Seitz Park on April 17.

"Firefighters will install the final wrought iron pieces at 2 p.m., marking the return of a powerful symbol of sacrifice, service, and community," a SBFD spokesperson said.

"Originally dedicated in 2004, the Memorial was designed, built, and funded entirely by South Bend firefighters with the support of local labor unions and businesses. It was disassembled and stored during the construction of the hydroelectric project led by Notre Dame."

While this is not a public event since Seitz Park is not open to the public yet, there will be a rededication ceremony at a later date.

Those with questions are asked to contact Tim Janowiak, the Special Projects Coordinator for Local 362, via email at [email protected].
