South Bend fire crews douse flames on Kaley Street Wednesday night

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at Vaquera Mex restaurant (624 Kaley St.) around 10:34 p.m. Wednesday night.

"Fire crews found a small, one-story store front with attached apartment showing a working fire on the exterior of the apartment side of structure," fire crews said. "Fire attack was made quickly with no extension into apartment noted."

Residents of the apartment were able to get out safely and there were no reports of injuries to them or firefighters.

Officials say the origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation.
