SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Community School Corporation announced that the South Bend Education has been awarded a $10,000 grant from United Way of St. Joseph County.
Officials say the grant will support the foundation's Teacher Wish List and Teacher Store initiatives, which help provide teachers with classroom supplies that directly impact students.
“We are so grateful to receive this amazing support from our friends at United Way of St. Joseph County,” said South Bend Education Foundation Operations Manager Charlotte Walterhouse. “We are happy to provide basic classroom supplies to the dedicated teachers at the South Bend Community School Corporation. The supplies directly impact students and help provide them with the best learning environment possible."
The Teacher Wish List is described as an application-based program, where teachers can apply for small grants up to $300 to support classroom needs.
Officials say the Teacher Store is a room stocked with classroom supplies, which teachers may pick up free of charge.
Officials add that while under construction this year, the new Teacher Store will open for 2025-26 school year.
