South Bend Cubs honor veterans with wreath laying

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Hundreds spent Memorial Day at Four Winds Field honoring veterans.

President Joe Hart and his South Bend Cubs team organized a wreath laying ceremony to appreciate service men and women.

”So many people sacrificed a lot that we're able to play baseball on a day like today. I want people to remember what today's all about, it's about remembering those that have sacrificed so much for us and it's humbling to be a part of it I’m glad our organization is able to do what we are able to do.” Joe Hart, president of the SB Cubs, said.

Mayor Buttigieg and Congresswoman Walorski were present and a part of the ceremony.

"I think any veteran gets up on memorial day with mixed emotions. On one hand, it's a holiday, it's a chance to spend time with family, on the other hand, it's also a time to think about people we knew who didn't make it back, and really that's what this is about, it's about honoring the sacrifces it took in order to protect the way of life that lets us enjoy baseball games and barbeques and summers in south bend." Mayor Buttigieg said.
