South Bend Community Schools Corporation releases statement after teacher made online comments concerning Charlie Kirk's murder

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Community Schools Corporation released a statement after a teacher made online comments concerning Charlie Kirk's murder.
The statement reads:
"Many concerns have been expressed regarding a private statement by one of our teachers relative to the Charlie Kirk assassination. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Kirk and let us be clear that we condemn the violent actions causing Mr. Kirk's death. There is no excuse or justification for such actions. Next, as a public employer, we are governed by the United States Constitution, which provides a fundamental right of freedom of speech. Our regulation of that speech is limited. Our primary concern in regulating speech is for the safety of our students, faculty, and our educational community. The manner in which we address comments by teachers must be balanced in a way that respects the rights and freedoms that we all have while at the same time not jeopardizing the safety of our students and faculty. Appropriate steps have been taken to address this situation in a manner conforming to the law. To protect the interests of all involved, further comment at this time may have the effect of undermining those interests. Nevertheless, if anyone has specific information involving the safety of students or faculty, please contact us or legal authorities."
