BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The 4 small businesses housed in the Mercantile and Food Market in Buchanan say they've seen great success in the market's first couple months of operation!
Taqueria Don Chepe, Diana's Kitchen, Goddess of the Moon Leatherworks and McBain Lane's Mercantile are all locally owned small businesses, getting their start here in the city's new business incubator.
While Don Chepe already has a storefront on Main Street in Niles, the other 3 business owners hope this incubator can offer the start they need to eventually grow into owning and operating their own individual storefronts.
Business owners say the week of Thanksgiving was a great time to open, giving neighbors a place to do some holiday shopping right in Buchanan, instead of having to drive to places like South Bend or St. Joe.
The idea is that a new cohort of businesses will move into the incubator each year, and the ones who cycle out will hopefully move into their own storefront and choose to stay local to the area.
