UPDATE: 32-year-old Andrew Barrett arrested following SWAT standoff
UPDATE: 32-year-old Andrew Barrett was arrested following a SWAT standoff near the 16000 block of Hamilton Street in Granger. Authorities initiated a warrant investigation just before 1:00 PM, which led our team to the 16000 block of Hamilton Street, where Barrett was believed to be inside a home.
After he refused to come out, the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT made up of officers from St. Joseph County, Mishawaka, and Pokagon) was activated. Negotiators and patrol officers were also called in to assist.
Two small children and two adults were also inside the home at the time. At approximately 4:23 PM, SWAT breached the door and deployed distraction devices, leading to Barrett’s arrest in the basement. Barrett was transported to the hospital for evaluation and will ultimately be booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.
He was wanted out of multiple states, including:
Indiana: parole violation with underlying charges of intimidation (stalking), neglect of a dependent, operating while intoxicated, and endangerment.
Michigan: simple assault, resisting arrest, and child abuse.
Colorado: domestic assault.
