Former daycare employee facing child exploitation charges
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A former Elkhart County daycare employee already facing child exploitation charges has now been charged with three additional felonies tied to an alleged incident at a local childcare facility.
Jamie Sherfick, 26, is now charged with child seduction, child molesting, and public indecency stemming from a July 2022 incident involving a non-verbal seven-year-old child.
According to newly filed court documents, a witness reported seeing Sherfick, who was employed at the time as a behavioral therapist, inappropriately touching the child.
The witness said they immediately alerted a supervisor. Despite the incident occurring more than three years ago, the new charges were only filed recently.
Sherfick was initially arrested in November 2024 after a cyber tip from Google led the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to flag his account. Investigators say two files depicting the sexual abuse of children were traced to Sherfick's address.
A search warrant reportedly uncovered multiple phones, and detectives described finding “copious amounts” of child abuse material.
At the time of the investigation, Sherfick was employed at Little People’s Daycare in Elkhart. During questioning, police say he admitted to participating in online chatrooms but denied producing or distributing explicit material.
The original charges against Sherfick include child exploitation and possession of child exploitation material. He has remained in custody since his arrest in November. The new allegations are being investigated as a separate case.
ABC57 reached out to the agencies involved in Sherfick’s arrest, including the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
